Cashmere gets its name from Kashmir, the region where cashmere production and trade originated. Over centuries, cashmere goats have spread to various other mountainous areas, most notably to China and Mongolia. The quality of cashmere depends on the region in which the wool is collected. Inner Mongolia has harsh winters and the goats living in this region produce fine hair synonymous with a good quality cashmere garment. These fibres are exceptionally soft and lofty.
